Step 1 — Specification & Reference Intake

We collect what the piece actually is: CAD or shop drawings, dimensions, fabric and finish samples, hardware details, and photographs of a prototype if one exists. For a catalogue we also need the list of colourways and sizes up front, because a range is planned differently from a single hero image.

Step 2 — Modelling to the Drawing

The model is built to specification and measured back against it. Seat height, arm thickness, panel gaps and radii are checked, not eyeballed — a chair three centimetres off looks plausible alone and obviously wrong beside its real photograph on the same catalogue page.

Step 3 — Fabric, Finish & Hardware

This is where furniture rendering is won or lost. Weave direction, pile, seam and stitch, the sheen of oiled versus lacquered oak, the way a metal edge catches light — each is built from the real sample rather than a generic library material.

Step 4 — Packshot or Styled Room Set

A white-background packshot for an e-commerce grid and a styled room set for a brochure need different lighting, and we set them up separately. Packshots are lit for consistency across a whole range; room sets are lit for atmosphere. You approve one of each before the rest is produced.

Step 5 — Colourways & Final 3D Furniture Renders

Once the master is approved, colourways and size variants are generated from it, so every item in the range matches in framing, light and scale. Files arrive named by SKU, in the resolutions your shop and your printer need, with transparent backgrounds where the platform expects them.

Why Manufacturers Move Catalogues to CGI

A furniture catalogue used to require the furniture: prototypes, a studio, a photographer, and a reshoot every time a fabric changed. Rendering takes the prototype out of that chain, and the economics of producing a range change with it.

Shoot the range before the range exists

Images can be produced from CAD while the first unit is still in tooling. Catalogues, trade-show boards and pre-orders all move earlier in the year, and a line that turns out not to sell can be dropped before it has ever been manufactured. For seasonal ranges that timing advantage is often worth more than the cost saving.

Every colourway matches, because it is the same light

Variants are generated from one approved master, so forty SKUs share identical framing, lighting and scale. On a shop grid that consistency reads as quality before anyone has looked at a single product. Photography across several sessions never quite delivers it, and customers register the mismatch even when they could not tell you what is wrong.

Cost per SKU falls as the range grows

The expensive part is modelling and material work on the first piece. Every additional colourway, size or configuration reuses it. For a range with many variants — and most ranges are mostly variants — the crossover against photography arrives quickly, and it arrives sooner the more finishes you offer.

Any background, any crop, any format

The same piece is delivered on white for the e-commerce grid, in a styled room set for the brochure, with transparency for a configurator, and re-cropped for whichever platform you add next year. None of that requires going back to a studio, and none of it requires the physical item to still exist.

Getting the material right is the actual work

Weave direction, pile, seam and stitch, the sheen of oiled versus lacquered oak, the way a brushed metal edge catches light — these are built from the real samples you send, not picked from a library. It is the difference between a render that looks like furniture and one that looks like a render, and it is where most of the effort on the first piece goes.

Modelling and rendering are different jobs

If you need accurate models for a configurator, for AR, or for manufacturing rather than images, that is 3D furniture modeling. If the pieces need to sit in a finished room rather than on white, see interior rendering. For non-furniture products the same pipeline applies: product rendering.

What a Furniture Rendering Project Includes

Modelling from your drawings or CAD, material and fabric work built from the real samples you send, hardware detail, lighting set up separately for packshots and for room sets, colourway and size variants generated from the approved master, and retouching. Files arrive named by SKU.

Deliverables and File Formats

JPEG and PNG at the resolutions your shop and printer need, with transparent backgrounds where the platform expects them, plus TIFF for print on request. Crops are supplied per channel — square for the grid, wide for the brochure — so nobody is re-cropping one image into six places.

Revisions and Feedback

Two rounds are included on the master image of each piece. Once the master is signed off, colourways and sizes are generated from it, so a change to the master before approval is cheap and a change after it means regenerating the set.

Confidentiality and NDA

We sign non-disclosure agreements on request, and unreleased ranges stay out of our portfolio until launch. For manufacturers producing catalogue images months before a trade show, this is the normal arrangement rather than an exception.
