What Is 3D Furniture Modeling?

3D furniture modeling is the building of a digital model of a piece of furniture, accurate to its drawings, that can then be used wherever the piece has to be shown before it exists or without photographing it: in renders, in a website configurator, in an AR app, on a marketplace with a 3D viewer, or in an architect’s interior scene. The model carries the geometry, the materials and the variants; the image is only one of the things made from it.

Modeling and rendering are different jobs, and this page is about the first one. If what you need is a set of finished pictures of the range, that is 3D furniture rendering. Who Orders the Models

Manufacturers and brands. Most of our 3D furniture modeling services go to manufacturers, and the usual reason is a range that has to exist in more places than a photo can reach: a configurator where the customer picks the fabric and the leg finish, an AR view for the product page, a 3D viewer on a marketplace, and the brand’s own renders in every season’s catalog. One model per piece feeds all of them, and every colorway and size is a variant of that model rather than a new job.

Retailers and marketplaces. Stores that carry many brands need models built to one standard, so the 3D viewer and the AR button behave the same on every product page regardless of who made the piece. Our furniture 3D modeling services follow the platform’s specification and deliver in its format.

Interior designers and architects. A bespoke piece for a specific project, or a designer item that has no usable model, built accurately enough to sit in a rendered room next to real products. The designer gets the model; if they want the room rendered as well, that is a separate service.

What the Model Includes

• Geometry to the drawing. Overall dimensions, seat height, arm thickness, panel gaps and radii are taken from the drawings or the CAD file and checked against them. If the arm comes out an inch too thick, the customer who already owns the real sofa will notice it in the configurator.
• Construction detail where it shows. Seams, stitching, tufting, piping, hardware, joinery and legs, modeled rather than painted on, because a configurator lets the customer zoom in.
• Materials from your samples. Fabric weave and pile, leather grain, wood grain and finish, metal brushing, built as physically based materials from the swatches you send, so they look right in your renderer and in a web viewer alike.
• Variants. Fabrics, finishes, sizes and modules set up as swaps on the master model, named to match your SKU list.
• The right version for each use. A full-detail model for rendering, and a lighter, optimized version for the web and AR where file size and polygon count matter.

Formats and Delivery

Models are built in 3ds Max and set up for Corona Renderer, which is the pipeline all our rendering runs on. From there we export to what the project needs: FBX or OBJ for other renderers and design tools, GLB and USDZ for AR on Android and iPhone and for web viewers, with textures packed alongside. Files arrive named by piece and variant, with a short note on scale, pivot and material slots so your team can drop them in without asking.

If the piece will also be rendered by us, the same model goes straight into the catalog work, and you pay for it once.

How We Work: Four Steps

1. Drawings and samples. You send the drawings or CAD, the dimensions, photographs of a prototype if one exists, and the fabric and finish samples. We agree on the level of detail, the formats and the list of variants, and confirm the price per piece and the schedule.

2. Clay model for approval. The geometry is built and sent as untextured views from several angles. You check the proportions and the details against the real piece; this is where changes are cheap.

3. Materials and variants. Fabrics, finishes and hardware go on, and the variants are set up on the approved master. You see the piece in a color preview in each of its main finishes.

4. Export and delivery. The model is checked in the target viewer or renderer, exported to the agreed formats and delivered with its textures and notes. Two rounds of revisions are included on each piece.

3D Furniture Modeling Cost

Modeling is priced per piece. In our 3D rendering cost guide a furniture piece is modeled at $300, and that is the starting point here; a simple wooden stool costs less than a tufted leather armchair with curved legs, where the modeling time can differ three to five times. Variants of an approved model, such as a new fabric or a second size, are a fraction of the first piece.

What moves the price: geometry complexity, the number of materials per piece, the level of construction detail required, and whether an optimized web version is needed as well as the full one. Send drawings or CAD, the finish list and the number of pieces, and we reply within 24 hours with a per-piece price and a schedule.

Why Manufacturers Model With Freedes

• Built by people who render. The same 30-plus artists who make our catalog images build the models, so a model that looks right in a viewer also looks right in a render.
• Measured, then checked. Geometry is taken from the drawing and materials from the sample, and both are checked before delivery; the model is meant to stand next to the real piece.
• Variants as a system. Fabrics, finishes and sizes are set up as swaps on one master, named to your SKU list.
• Models that outlive the project. A piece modeled once is reused for every catalog shot, configurator view and AR file that follows, so the second order on the same range is quicker and cheaper than the first.
• Unreleased ranges stay private. A piece in development stays between us until you launch it, on paper if you prefer: an NDA is signed on request.
